Job summary

Brockenhurst College in Brockenhurst is seeking a part-time Counselling Tutor for evening classes starting September 2026. You will deliver level 4 counselling for adults, assess learners, and work with the Head of Adult Learning on recruitment and curriculum planning.

The ideal candidate holds Level 4 counselling/psychotherapy and a teaching qualification or is willing to qualify. Experience with adults, innovative teaching methods, and mentoring are essential.

Qualifications

• Level 4 Counselling/Psychotherapy or related L4 qualification.
• Teaching qualification or willingness to work towards alongside your role.
• Minimum 3 years' experience as Counsellor.
• Experience teaching and/or a desire to teach adults.
• Evidence of knowledge/experience of innovative teaching and learning techniques.
• Mentoring and supporting team members.
• Knowledge of current developments in Counselling/Psychotherapy.
• Knowledge of involving students in feedback on their programmes.

Responsibilities

• Deliver the level 4 Counselling Course to Adults as agreed with the Head of Adult Learning.
• Mark registers and provide documentation in line with College policies.
• Work with the Head of Adult Learning on recruitment and monitoring.
• Promote inclusive learning principles.
• Contribute to curriculum design, delivery and development.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments and research in Counselling.
• Share good practice in teaching methods and strategies.
• Participate in the College’s Lesson Observation Scheme.
• Participate in staff development and training.
• Maintain CPD and College training days.

Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for aCounselling Tutor(evening classes, from September 2026) to join our dedicated and enthusiastic team based in Brockenhurst. You will be working on aclaims basis and in return, you will receive a salary of £32.35 to £43.03 per hour DOE and qualifications (Unqualified Teachers £25.64 to £32.35 per hour DOE). You will be engaged to deliver specific counselling units as required and due to the nature of the role, work will be offered in blocks of delivery linked to curriculum needs.

Responsibilities as ourCounselling Tutorinclude:

• Deliver the level 4 Counselling Course to Adults as agreed with the Head of Adult Learning
• Mark registers and provide documentation in line with College policies
• Work closely with the Head of Adult Learning particularly with regards to the recruitment, monitoring
• Pay due attention to the principles of inclusive learning
• Contribute to the design, delivery and future planning and development of curriculum
• Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of developments and research in Counselling
• Promote the sharing of good practice in the development of teaching methods and strategies.
• Participate in the College’s Lesson Observation Scheme.
• Participate in staff development and training
• Maintain an up-to-date knowledge through continuing professional development and College training days

The ideal Counselling Tutor will need:

• Level 4 Counselling/Psychotherapy or related L4 qualification
• Teaching qualification or be willing to work towards alongside your role
• Extensive experience as Counsellor with a minimum of 3 years in the role,
• Experience of teaching and/or a desire to teach adults
• Evidence of knowledge and/or experience of innovative teaching and learning techniques
• Mentoring and supporting team members
• Knowledge and understanding of current developments in Counselling/Psychotherapy
• Knowledge of appropriate methods of involving students in feedback on their programmes
