Job description

Council Tax Officer – West London – £27.77 per hour (Umbrella)

A West London Local Authority is seeking an experienced Council Tax and Benefits Officer to join their Revenues and Benefits team on a contract basis.

Role Purpose

You will play a key role in the effective administration and collection of Council Tax, ensuring that accounts are accurate and up to date while providing a high standard of customer service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist as part of a team in the administration of Council Tax accounts.
  • Use the Council’s computer systems to maintain accurate records of liability, charges, reductions, payments, and arrangements, including those made through Liability Order and Committal Court proceedings.
  • Check and issue bills, recovery notices, enforcement documents, and enquiry forms to ensure prompt and efficient collection.
  • Liaise with enforcement agents (bailiffs) and other external partners as appropriate to progress recovery action.
  • Respond to customer enquiries professionally and promptly, providing accurate information and resolutions.
  • Apply a thorough understanding of Council Tax legislation to determine liability and entitlement to discounts and exemptions.
  • Accurately calculate Council Tax charges and amendments, and prepare statements of account for multiple years or properties.
