Job summary

SSE plc in Scotland is seeking a Cost Manager (Cost Controller) to join the Procurement & Commercial team supporting Transmission projects. The role focuses on cost control, forecasting and reporting across multiple initiatives within a regulated environment.

You will analyse cost data, present findings at monthly reviews, drive improvements, and collaborate with Contract Management and stakeholders to ensure accurate, timely reporting and value delivery.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience in cost control and reporting.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Experience with tools such as Excel, Power BI and Oracle/ERP.
  • Knowledge of commercial aspects of contracts (FIDIC/NEC3).

Responsibilities

  • Manage Cost Control activities across multiple projects – including earned value, forecasting, reporting and integration with Contract Management.
  • Produce Cost Control reporting monthly, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Present Cost Control data at Monthly Cost Reviews with explanations of variances.
  • Use Cost Control data to provide actionable insights to stakeholders.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of Cost Control processes.

Base Location: You'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in one of the following locations: Perth, Glasgow, Aberdeen or Inverness

Salary: £51,600 - £77,400 + car / allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

The role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Cost Manager (Cost Controller) to join our Procurement and Commercial team to support our Networks Transmission business.

SSEN Transmissionis at the heart of the just transition to net zero in the UK. In the coming years, our network will be pivotal in connecting and transporting the power needed to decarbonise the UK's electricity network and in doing so power the UK's net-zero and energy security ambitions. Our business is rapidly growing, to deliver the largest investment package that Scotland's electricity system has ever seen, with a projected investment programme of over £20bn+ in the next 10 years. This role will support the delivery of this ambitious investment programme.

The role will be responsible for Cost Control activities within our Transmission business. To successfully operate within a regulated business environment, we require to monitor, control and report on all Cost Control matters. The Cost Manager (Cost Controller) will be expected to manage the coordination and fulfilment of all Cost Control activities for allocated projects.

You will
  • Manage Cost Control activities across a number of projects – this includes value of work done, forecasting, reporting and integration with Contract Management.
  • Produce Cost Control Reporting monthly - ensuring reports are accurate and timely.
  • Present Cost Control data at various forums such as Monthly Cost Reviews – explaining key elements and variances within the reporting.
  • Use Cost Control data to provide actionable insights to various stakeholders.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement activities within the business, including identifying and developing innovative methods for improving Cost Control processes.
You have
  • Demonstrable experience and competency in cost control and reporting.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Demonstrate experience and competency in digital tools such as Microsoft Excel, Power BI and Oracle/Other ERP
  • Knowledge and experience of commercial aspects of contracts (including Contract Management-FIDIC/NEC3).
