Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the R&D finance team to join as Management Accountant to provide a comprehensive financial management support to the Research & Development Directorate. This post is an ideal opportunity to develop your accounting career in R&D Finance in a supportive and dynamic environment.

Main Duties of the Job
  • Delivery of monthly management reporting, ensuring timely reconciliations, variance analyses & forecasting are delivered to expected timescales & standards.
  • Act as the designated financial management representative at service management and operational meetings.
  • Identify opportunities for financial efficiencies and highlight areas of risk and ensure these are closely monitored.
  • Provide and present complex financial management information and advice to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare and submit quarterly, annual and end of grant returns in line with contractual obligations.
  • Provide costing support for Research funding applications and business cases.
  • Support senior finance team with ad hoc reporting requirements.

Knowledge and Qualifications
  • Studying towards a CCAB/CIMA Professional Accountancy qualification or first degree/equivalent
  • Computer literacy in packages such as Excel and Word. Expected to design and create reports using financial spreadsheets and databases.
Experience
  • Experience of costing principles.
  • Demonstrate experience of management accounting, income & expenditure accounting, and financial reporting.
  • Demonstrate experience of assisting in negotiating agreements and contracts.
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of NCVR, SoECAT and iCT

  • Possess good inter‑personal and negotiating skills.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with staff across the Trust, including Consultants, and non‑financial managers Personal & people development
