Salary : £45,000

55,000 + benefits (DOE)

A global manufacturing business specialising in precision components is seeking a Cost Accountant to join their finance team in Leicester. This is a key role working closely with operations, production and procurement teams to drive cost visibility, improve margin performance and support informed decision-making.

This is a fully on-site position due to the hands‑on nature of the work and close interaction with stakeholders across the factory.

The Role

As Cost Accountant, you will be responsible for analysing manufacturing costs, evaluating production variances, supporting budgeting, and improving cost control processes. You will act as a critical business partner to operational leaders, providing insight and challenge to help optimise performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyse material, labour and overhead costs, ensuring accurate product‑costing and standard cost updates.
  • Work closely with operations and procurement to understand cost drivers and improve cost transparency.
  • Prepare monthly cost reports, margin analysis and manufacturing variance commentary.
  • Support annual budget and forecasting processes for production‑related cost areas.
  • Monitor stock movements, inventory valuation and WIP, ensuring accuracy and compliance with audit requirements.
  • Review purchase price variances, supplier cost changes and BOM accuracy.
  • Support continuous improvement projects to enhance cost control and process efficiency.
  • Provide financial insight to support make / buy decisions, capacity planning and operational performance reviews.
About You
  • Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Strong understanding of product costing, standard costing, and manufacturing variances.
  • Advanced Excel skills and solid experience with ERP or MRP systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to challenge and influence stakeholders across operations, supply chain and procurement.
  • Detail‑oriented, analytical and proactive in identifying issues and driving improvements.
