Job summary

The University of Sheffield's School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences invites applications for a Research Associate in Theoretical Cosmology. This fixed-term post (12 months) funds cosmology projects including H0 tension analyses, with a focus on testing models against current data and informing future surveys.

You will work within the Cosmology, Relativity and Gravitation group, contributing to publications and collaborations.

Qualifications

• PhD in physics, astronomy, cosmology or closely related discipline (or equivalent experience).
• Experience coding and analyzing cosmological data.
• Ability to plan and conduct research in theoretical cosmology.
• Evidence of research achievement and potential; strong computational/analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to and support the research group work; attend seminars and collaborations.
• Prepare high-quality research publications.
• Prepare papers for journals and presentations at conferences.
• Attend international conferences and present the group’s work.
• Read papers and inform colleagues on developments to guide project work.
• This is not a teaching role, though teaching opportunities may arise.
• Promote ethical decisions and align with sustainability goals.
• Carry out other duties commensurate with grade and remit.
