Corporate Lawyer – Sport World Championship – Soho, London

Our client, a Sport World Championship, have retained us for the search of a Senior Corporate Lawyer – Ideally with sports or Rights Holders exposure.

We are looking for someone who is prepared to hit the ground running and to “get stuck in” on a wide range of legal work supporting senior management, commercial, media / content and communications teams. This is a fast paced and dynamic start‑up environment, and the role involves close collaboration with the business and senior management team interaction, daily.

Responsibilities : Corporate & Company Law
  • Autonomous management of all corporate and company law matters, acting as the company’s in-house legal lead on these issues.
  • Drafting written board resolutions to approve Board reserved matters under the Shareholders' Agreement (SHA).
  • Thorough understanding and application of an SHA and Articles of Association (AOAs), ensuring alignment with business operations and governance.
  • Interpretation and implementation of the company’s internal policies, especially the Delegation of Authority (DOA) policy regarding revenue / expenditure thresholds.
  • Monitoring and ensuring Board approval for commercial deals that fall within thresholds under the DOA.
  • Liaising with the Board (mainly via email) to present commercial deals for approval, requiring excellent written communication and summarisation skills.
  • Drafting shareholder consents pursuant to SHA reserved matters (templates will be provided).
  • Liaison with the major shareholder to respond to corporate governance or commercial queries, potentially on a daily basis.
  • Providing clear legal briefings to senior stakeholders (CEO, Chairman, MD) on corporate governance and company law questions.
  • Attendance at Board meetings; responsible for preparing and maintaining accurate minutes of meetings.
  • Liaison and coordination with external corporate counsel for more complex corporate transactions (e.g., primary investment rounds, secondary share sales).
Commercial Legal Support (assisting Legal Director)
  • Drafting commercial agreements, using existing templates, including:
    • Sponsorship agreements (including racing Team sponsorship and local event sponsorship agreements)
    • Merchandise and licensing agreements
    • Marketing competition terms and conditions
    • Team participation agreements
    • Agency / introducer agreements
  • Supporting the sustainability team with contract.
Experience :
  • UK‑qualified solicitor with 6 - 7 years PQE, ideally trained at a law firm and with prior experience of working in‑house within a Sports Rightsholder.
  • Ideally worked within a sports company, organisation, or sport’s governing body.
  • Ideally start‑up exposure.
  • Strong grounding in corporate law, with demonstrable in‑house experience managing governance and shareholder matters.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence in liaising with senior stakeholders including Board members and shareholders.
  • Proven ability to draft and negotiate commercial contracts using in‑house templates.
  • Experience working with or managing external counsel on corporate transactions.
  • Highly organised, detail‑oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Can‑do attitude and problem‑solving / solutions‑focussed approach.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and workstreams, and prioritise appropriately.
  • Independent & resourceful self‑starter with strong work ethics.
