A leading consultancy firm in Birmingham seeks a Corporate Health and Safety Manager to develop and maintain health and safety policies. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with legislation and provide guidance on health and safety matters. Qualifications include experience in quality management and a Chartered membership with IOSH. The role involves travel and offers the chance to mentor junior staff in health & safety duties.

Qualifications

  • Experience in quality management systems/auditing is preferred.
  • Extensive practical experience within the 'Client side' construction industry.
  • Good understanding of health and safety auditing.

  • Review, develop and maintain health and safety policies and procedures.

  • Conduct regular audits of health and safety services provided to external clients.

Job description

We are seeking a high calibre professional Corporate Health and Safety Manager to review, develop and maintain existing health and safety policies and procedures, which comply with new and existing legislation to ensure that all relevant health and safety legal requirements are complied with throughout Rider Levett Bucknall. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team of internal professionals who pride themselves on providing outstanding corporate QSHE guidance and advice. Candidates with experience in quality management are encouraged to apply, as this is an area of growth in the team. There is the potential to mentor a graduate who will be available to assist with relevant H&S duties 1 day per week. Please note that RLB provides a wide range of consultancy health and safety services to external clients via a number of professional H&S consultants including:

  • CDM Services - Principal Designer, Principal Designer Advisor and Independent Client Advisor.
  • Health & Safety Auditing
  • Fire Risk Assessments

The successful candidate will work closely with the professional consultants and undertake regular audits of all services provided to external clients on construction projects. Reporting to the Compliance Partner, duties will include (but not limited to):

  • To provide health and safety advice and guidance to the Group on policy and the development of Health and Safety strategies including the implementation of the policy.
  • To obtain ISO45001 certification for the UK business.
  • To measure, review and audit the management processes and H&S performances of the professional services and to report on the effectiveness of the measures taken.
  • To advise the Director with responsibility for H&S of foreseeable risks to the Group that could lead to enforcement or potential insurance claim.
  • To ensure Group's employees are fully informed of changes in legislation, best practice and their relevant guidance notes.
  • To provide accident statistics and reports on health, safety, and welfare. To investigate accidents and untoward occurrences and to ensure that the Group complies with the notification procedures to the enforcing authorities.
  • To lead the design, delivery and evaluation of programmes for health and safety training to the Group.

The candidate must be flexible and willing to travel and stay away from home if required. They must also hold a full UK Driving Licence. The ideal candidate will be committed to delivering high levels of customer service excellence with good commercial awareness. Chartered Member of IOSH

Qualifications:

  • Preferably, Quality qualification or experience with Quality Management systems/auditing
  • Extensive practical experience within the 'Client side' construction industry.
  • Good understanding of the CDM Regulations.
  • Excellent IT and communication skills.
Desirable:
  • Professional training qualification
  • Health and safety management system auditing with ISO45001 Auditor/Lead auditor
  • Qualified Fire Risk Assessor - IFE or IFSM
  • Environmental management system auditing with ISO14001
