Job summary

Stantec Consulting International Ltd. in Redditch seeks a Corporate Counsel with 5–10 years’ post-qualification experience to provide high-quality, commercial legal advice across the business.

You will manage a diverse caseload, including contracts, risk and bid management, disputes, and regulatory matters, while embedding within operational teams and influencing key decisions.

Qualifications

  • Approximately 5–10 years’ post-qualification experience in-house or private practice.
  • Strong commercial acumen with ability to provide practical, timely legal solutions to non-legal stakeholders.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills with senior managers and decision-makers.
  • Commitment to keeping up to date with developments in legislation and case law.
  • Willingness to travel within the UK occasionally as required by the business.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and assist with commercial contract negotiations, joint venture agreements, and review confidentiality agreements and pre-qualification questionnaires.
  • Advise on Bid Reviews and contribute to Risk Review Committees.
  • Manage disputes and ongoing litigation, including mediations and external meetings.
  • Provide guidance on varied corporate matters, including HR issues/disputes and lease reviews.
  • Conduct legal research to ensure guidance is accurate and compliant with policies and legislation.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Corporate Counsel to join our team in Redditch.

This is a unique opportunity to join a highly talented, collaborative team of lawyers and paralegals within Stantec’s UK-based legal function. As a core member of the team, you will work closely with our wider Risk Management group, providing high-quality, commercial legal advice to a dynamic and growing business.

About the Role

Depending on your experience and capability, you will manage a diverse caseload of legal matters across the business. Key responsibilities include:

  • Commercial Contracts: Leading and assisting with contract negotiations, joint venture agreements, and reviewing essential legal documents such as confidentiality agreements and pre-qualification questionnaires.

  • Risk & Bid Management: Advising on Bid Reviews and contributing actively to Risk Review Committees.

  • Dispute Resolution: Managing on-going claims or litigation, including attending mediations and external meetings as required.

  • Operational Support: Advising on varied corporate matters, including HR issues/disputes and commercial property lease reviews.

  • Research & Guidance: Conducting legal research to ensure all published Stantec guidance is legally accurate and reflects current legislation, while ensuring all work complies with internal systems, policies, and procedures.

You will become a trusted advisor, managing your caseload in line with corporate standards and service level agreements, while maintaining and developing brilliant relationships that win the confidence of managers and decision-makers across the business.

About You

We are seeking a solicitor with substantial in-house or private practice experience in a professional services environment. Candidates are likely to have gained this through approximately 5-10 years’ post-qualification experience, although applications from candidates with equivalent relevant experience are welcome.

You will also have the following:

  • Strong commercial acumen and the ability to deliver practical, timely legal solutions to non-legal stakeholders.

  • Excellent relationship-building skills, with the confidence to liaise with senior managers and decision-makers.

  • A dedication to keeping up to date with developments in legislation and case law.

  • The flexibility to travel within the UK occasionally as required by the business.
