Job description
About us

As a nation, we're working towards the goal of net zero carbon by 2050. At National Grid, we're committed to helping Britain reach this target by building a cleaner, greener energy system. But we can't do this alone. We're seeking individuals who are brimming with enthusiasm and bursting with ideas to help us build and operate a cleaner energy system for the future. Are you up for the challenge?

We're looking for a passionate Corporate Affairs Assistant to join our Electricity Distribution Corporate Affairs team on a 12 month FTC. The Corporate Affairs department is responsible for protecting, preserving, and enhancing the reputation of the National Grid. While a group function, Electricity Distribution Corporate Affairs (EDCA) act as a dedicated support service to the Electricity Distribution Business (NGED), serving 20 million customers across the Midlands, Southwest and Wales.

This role will be based out of our Castle Donington office, and we'd hope to see you at least two days per week, but you're welcome to be in the office more often if that would work best for you. We're happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help to make this job work for you!

What you'll do:

Support the Director of Corporate Affairs and the wider EDCA leadership team with the administration of the Corporate Affairs department, including logistics, payments, third‑party contracts and agreements.

Assist with the coordination of meetings and events, ensuring regular opportunities for tactical and strategic leadership meetings, colleague development, safety, and EDI initiatives across the department.

Responsible for the processing of invoices and contract paperwork, making sure appropriate approvals are in place and suppliers are paid on time and accurately.

Support with the set up and management of external events for the business, including parliamentary meetings, stakeholder roadshows, community outreach events and stakeholder site visits.

Support with the preparation and dissemination of briefing materials for the executive team, making sure all members are briefed in a timely manner on key topics.

Provide administrative support to the Policy, Regulation and Reputation Committee, ensuring agendas and papers are issued in advance and all actions are captured, assigned and disseminated after the meetings.

Provide support to the preparation and distribution of weekly reports and monthly performance scorecard for the Corporate Affairs department.

Help with the management and coordination of the Director of Corporate Affairs' diary, logistics and internal and external commitments.

What you'll have:

Good project management skills are essential, with the ability to manage multiple strands of work at once.

Great organisational skills and attention to detail are important and an ability to learn and use new reporting, administrative and finance systems quickly and effectively.

You must have a passion for customer excellence and be comfortable working as part of a small and busy team.

Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, as is an ability to manage a range of internal and external stakeholders.

Don't meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of colour are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At National Grid, we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace for everyone. So, if you're excited about this role but your experience or qualifications don't match the job description exactly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You might just be the right person for our growing business in this role or another one.
