Qualifications

  • Registered with the General Medical Council and licensed to practice.
  • Experience in phacoemulsification cataract surgery (250 surgeries).
  • Near completion of higher specialist training in Ophthalmology.

Responsibilities

  • Cross-site clinical sessions in cornea/cataract clinics.
  • Participation in corneal and cataract operating lists.
  • Management of urgent cases at any time during the week.
  • On-call for anterior segment emergencies and general on-call.

Job description
Job Overview

The successful applicant must be registered with the General Medical Council and hold a licence to practice. Possession of FRCOphth/MRCOphth or an equivalent ophthalmic qualification is required. Applicants should be at Specialist Trainee grade or equivalent and near completion of their higher specialist training in Ophthalmology.

Applicants should have experience in phacoemulsification cataract surgery, having completed 250 surgeries with audit evidence of results, and be able to operate independently without supervision.

Clinical Responsibilities
  • Cross‑site clinical sessions including cornea/cataract clinics and theatres.
  • Participation in corneal and cataract operating lists.
  • Management of urgent cases presenting at any time during the week.
  • On‑call for anterior segment emergencies (1 in 9 week frequency) and general on‑call at St. Georges Hospital.
  • Leadership role in the corneal multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and allied health professionals.
  • Participation in formal and informal teaching.
  • Opportunities to undertake research and audit.
