Job summary

Serco is recruiting a Core Tutor at HMP Dovegate, Staffordshire, delivering Maths or English programmes to help learners gain essential skills and recognised qualifications. You will support rehabilitation and personal growth, contributing to positive outcomes for individuals in custody.

You'll create opportunities for learners to build confidence, improve literacy and numeracy, and re-engage with education, while complying with awarding bodies and safeguarding requirements.

Qualifications

• Hold a Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET) or equivalent.
• Hold a Level 3 AVRA or Assessor qualification.
• Experience delivering high-quality teaching, learning and assessment.
• Passionate about supporting learner development and diverse backgrounds.
• Excellent communication, organisation and relationship-building skills.
• Commitment to CPD and high teaching standards.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive teaching and learning programmes that meet individual learner needs.
• Develop schemes of work, lesson plans and ILPs, monitoring learner progress and achievement.
• Assess learner work, provide constructive feedback and support accreditation outcomes.
• Act as a personal tutor, providing guidance, mentoring and pastoral support to help learners overcome barriers to education.
• Maintain accurate learner records and documentation while ensuring compliance with awarding body and statutory requirements.
• Work collaboratively with education colleagues, prison teams and other professionals to create a safe, supportive and effective learning environment.
• Contribute to curriculum development, continuous improvement activities and ongoing professional development.
