Overview
The Copyright Data Assurance Manager is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity and reliability of copyright data held within the PRO's systems. The role performs audit and assurance activity across copyright registrations, ownership splits, and work metadata to protect member and affiliate rights. Working closely with ICE, publisher members, affiliated societies, and internal copyright operations teams, this role identifies and resolves data quality issues that may impact distributions, revenue allocation, or contractual compliance. The role helps safeguard the PRO from liability and ensures members are paid accurately and fairly.
Responsibilities
Copyright Data Quality & Audit:
- Conduct regular sampling of copyright work registrations to verify correct ingestion via ICE and internal copyright systems.
- Audit catalogue updates, member submissions and import files to ensure data accuracy and consistency with industry standards (CWR, CIS, CIS-Net, ISWC).
Issue Management & Resolution:
- Log, categorise, and track data issues using internal audit or tracking tools.
- Raise ingestion and metadata issues to ICE and follow them through to resolution, ensuring timely remediation.
High-Value and Sensitive Works Control:
- Perform enhanced assurance on high-revenue, high-profile and complex works.
- Review work claims for major publishers and strategic catalogues to prevent ownership conflicts or revenue leakage.
Distribution Assurance:
- Execute pre-distribution checks to validate ownership share splits and payee assignments.
- Investigate share discrepancies, over-claims and unresolved disputes prior to distribution deadlines.
Member & Affiliate Stewardship:
- Act on behalf of PRO members and affiliate societies to ensure their copyright interests are accurately represented.
- Support investigation and resolution of copyright conflicts and counterclaims.
Data Reconciliation & Metadata Assurance:
- Reconcile rights data against ICE records, international society data and mechanical rights organisations.
- Validate and maintain identifiers such as ISWC, IPI/CAE, ISRC and Tune Codes to support global rights matching.
Risk Management & Reporting:
- Identify systemic issues and elevate high-risk cases for operational or legal review.
- Produce assurance reports highlighting trends, error rates and recommendations for control improvements.
Continuous Improvement:
- Develop data quality metrics and improve audit testing processes.
- Contribute to governance and compliance standards across copyright operations.
About you
Essential:
- Experience within a PRO, music publishing, collective rights management or copyright operations role.
- Understanding of copyright registration, rights ownership and royalty distribution.
- Working knowledge of CIS, CWR, ISWC, IPI and music metadata standards.
- Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with issue tracking or audit processes.
- Ability to interpret contractual or rights documentation.
- Excellent attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Clear written and verbal communication.
Desirable:
- Experience working with ICE copyright systems or CWR-based ingestion workflows.
- Knowledge of repertoire conflict resolution processes.
- Familiarity with BI tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau) or SQL for analysis.
- Experience in process improvement or quality assurance.
- Understanding of global PRO landscapes and international affiliations.
