Job Summary

Paediatric services are looking for a colleague who can help our busy and lively teams achieve our trust's and departmental targets. The successful candidate will be part of a team that prides itself on delivering excellent patient care and efficient working practices.

Using great communication skills to coordinate patient appointments and assist the organization of clinical work, the candidate may be asked to work between hospital sites with the possibility of working from home.

There are a number of roles within Paediatric Services across a range of surgical and medical specialties. Upon successful interview, you may be offered a role in any vacant paediatric service.

Main duties of the job
  • To liaise with and act as a point of contact for queries from clinical and non‑clinical staff.
  • To act as a point of contact for patients, relatives and carers, always polite and empathetic and able to communicate effectively in difficult situations.
  • To process outpatient appointments and inpatient admissions by telephone in line with the Patient Administration System (PAP), including informing patients of any changes or cancellations and re‑booking appointments if required.

Essential Knowledge and Experience

  • Clerical / administrative experience, including filing and reception duties.
  • Experience dealing with the public, both over the telephone and in person.

Desirable

  • Previous NHS experience.
  • Experience using a Patient Administration System.
  • Understanding of medical terminology.
  • Experience in a busy office environment.

Essential Skills and Abilities

  • Effective and polite manner when dealing with people face‑to‑face and by phone.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and maintain high accuracy.
  • Teamwork skills, adaptability to change and the ability to motivate others.
