Job summary

Sodexo at King Edward VI Five Ways School, Scotland Ln, Bartley Green, Birmingham, is hiring a Cook to support the Cook Manager in overseeing school kitchen operations and finances. The role focuses on cooking, presentation, and compliant food handling for meals and hospitality, with a commitment to friendly hours and holidays off.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year experience in hands-on cooking.
  • Experience cooking for large groups (100-1300 students).
  • Experience following recipes.
  • Experience with fresh produce and ingredients.
  • Awareness of health and safety procedures.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a busy kitchen.
  • Professional with a positive attitude and leading by example.
  • Hold basic food handling skills certification.

  • Prepare, cook, present, and serve food to company standards for breakfast, lunch and hospitality.
  • Adhere to Food safety, Health and Safety, Allergen awareness, COSHH and HACCP regulations.
  • Carry out craft/skills training for catering staff.
  • Ensure service counters and food are presented to company standards.
  • Ensure each dish is portioned according to business requirements.
  • Complete daily/weekly cleaning duties in food prep and storage areas and waste removal.
  • Deliver high standards in customer service, cleanliness, tidiness and operations.

Job description

As a Cook for Sodexo at King Edward VI Five Ways School, Scotland Ln, Bartley Green, Birmingham B32 4BT, you will assist the Cook Manager to oversee all aspects of the food and beverage operations as well as the finances for your school's kitchen. You will support the Cook Manager in ensuring you showcase what the kitchen supplies, presenting it in the most eye-catching way possible, ensuring we are offering the best service possible. As well as this, you will not work unsociable hours and you will get public holidays off including Christmas!

What you do
  • Prepare, cook, present, and serve food to company standards which may include breakfast, morning break, lunch, and hospitality.
  • You will adhere to all company compliance (such as Food safety, Health and Safety, Allergen awareness, COSHH and HACCP regulations).
  • To carry out craft/ skills training for catering staff.
  • To ensure that all service counters and food is presented to company standards.
  • To guarantee that each dish served is portioned according to business requirements.
  • To complete daily/ weekly cleaning duties as instructed by the line manager and this includes all food preparation and storage areas, all catering communal areas. Removal of waste from catering area.
  • Deliver exceptionally high standards in customer service, cleanliness, tidiness, and other operational activity.
What you bring
  • A minimum of 1 years of experience in hands on cooking,training on Food Hygiene, and Health & Safety will be given.
  • Must have expertise on cooking on a large scale, anywhere between 100 - 1300 students.
  • Have experience following recipes, possibly in a similar setting.
  • Have experience working with fresh produce and ingredients.
  • Be aware of the importance of adhering to health and safety procedures.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines in a busy Kitchen environment.
  • Be professional, leading by example and having a positive outlook is key.
  • Hold basic food handling skills certification

Package Description
  • £14.15 per hour
  • 30 hours per week
  • Working pattern: Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 2:00pm (including a 30-minute break)
  • Term Time only (39week Working Contract paid over 52 weeks)

Equated pay (sometimes known as spread-over pay) is a method of paying you for your contracted hours, working weeks and holiday pay spread over 12 months instead of just receiving pay during the months that you work and none during the school closures/non-working weeks. This means that you get paid equal amounts of pay every month. Further information will be supplied at interview stage.
