Job description

We are recruiting for an experienced Cook to work in a Private Adults Residential home, which is opening in November 2025.

As a Cook you will prepare and serve nutritious well balanced meals for residents in accordance with dietary needs, preferences, and health requirements, while maintaining high standards of hygiene and food safety.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Plan, prepare and cook meals for residents
  • Cater to any individual dietary requirements, e.g., diabetic, vegetarian, texture modified diets, etc.
  • Ensure meals are presented attractively and served on time
  • Develop weekly menus in consultation with other staff members, ensuring variety and nutritional balance
  • Adapt menus based on seasonal produce and resident feedback
  • Ensure the maintenance of a clean and organised kitchen in line with health and safety regulations.
  • Properly store, label and rotate food, and comply with all food hygiene standards and complete necessary documentation/records such as temperature logs.
  • Monitor food supplies, place orders as needed, work within budgetary constraints while minimising waste
  • Engage positively with residents encouraging feedback on meals and train and supervise kitchen assistants as and when applicable.
Qualifications and experience
  • Proven experience as a Cook, preferably in a care or healthcare setting (desirable rather than essential)
  • Knowledge of food hygiene and safety regulations
  • Hold a minimum Level 2 Food Safety Certificate; a Level 2 in Catering or equivalent, with experience of menu planning and budgeting.
  • Fully enhanced DBS check (client can undertake this on your behalf if not already held)

A uniform will be provided as will meals while on shift. There could be some flexibility in the working hours and these can be discussed at interview.
