Cook – Probation Trust Hostels

Rate: 17 / hour Holiday Pay (19.05 / hour total)

Essential: Basic DBS check required

Role Overview

We are seeking experienced cooks to work independently within Probation Trust hostels preparing and serving home‑cooked meals for residents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and serve nutritious home‑cooked meals
  • Work autonomously in hostel kitchen environments
  • Complete required paperwork and food safety documentation
  • Report to site supervisor on long‑term assignments
Assignment Types
  • Ongoing cover for permanent vacancies
  • Short‑term cover (weekend shifts few days at a time)
  • Holiday / sickness cover
  • Temporary assignments (typically 4 weeks)
Typical Shift Patterns
  • 12pm - 6pm or 1pm - 7pm
  • Weekday weekend or combination shifts available
  • Mix of regular and ad‑hoc assignments

Flexible cooks able to accommodate varying shift patterns and locations are preferred.

Required Skills

A minimum of 2 years experience in a similar role in a quality fine dining establishment Knowledge of front of house restaurant bar and cellar operations Excellent communication and leadership skills Strong customer service skills Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and remain calm under pressure Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays Knowledge of food and beverage trends and the ability to make recommendations based on customer preferences
