An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Controls and Governance Lead to join a highly respected Legal Entity Reporting team based in London. This role offers the chance to shape robust governance structures, ensure effective controls, and drive continuous process improvements within a collaborative and supportive environment. A competitive daily rate is on offer, with opportunities to impact risk management and regulatory compliance while working with professionals who value teamwork and open communication.

What you'll do

As Controls and Governance Lead, you will safeguard the integrity of legal entity reporting by embedding strong governance practices. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include collaborating with colleagues across multiple disciplines to review control environments, enhance process documentation, lead quality assurance efforts, and drive automation initiatives. You will produce insightful management information reports while maintaining rigorous standards for compliance and risk mitigation. Success in this role requires technical expertise and a genuine commitment to teamwork, open communication, and continuous learning within a dynamic environment.

  • Oversee the development, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of control frameworks to ensure robust governance across all legal entity reporting activities.
  • Conduct reviews of risk and control self-assessments (RCSA) and regulatory compliance management (RCM), identifying areas for improvement and remediation.
  • Lead quality assurance initiatives including attestation processes, reconciliations, evidence management, end-user computing checks, sample testing, and internal/external report reviews.
  • Maintain an up-to-date document library capturing end-to-end processes and procedures across relevant functions within the department.
  • Drive continuous improvement by automating processes and strengthening controls to mitigate operational risks.
  • Produce high-quality management information (MI) reports to inform senior decision-makers and support regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with statutory reporting, regulatory reporting, change management, and controls teams to foster shared responsibility for risk mitigation.
  • Utilise knowledge of finance technology components (front office trade systems, sub-ledgers, general ledgers, and reporting suites) to streamline workflows.
  • Champion a culture of transparency, accuracy, and accountability throughout all aspects of legal entity reporting.
What you bring

To excel as Controls and Governance Lead, you should have significant experience in financial services or banking environments where regulatory compliance is paramount. A strong analytical mindset, clear communication, and a collaborative approach are essential. A track record of delivering process improvements—especially through automation—and managing quality assurance frameworks is highly valued.

  • Recognised finance qualification such as ACA, CIMA, ACCA or CFA is beneficial for developing a strong control environment within financial services.
  • Extensive experience in a reporting or control environment with exposure to regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Strong numeracy and the ability to analyse complex data sets.
  • Accounting experience within capital markets products (cash securities, repos, derivatives) with commercial acumen.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Office applications for managing documentation and producing reports.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of finance technology components (front office trade systems, sub-ledgers, general ledgers, and reporting suites).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for presenting findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborative, team-oriented approach with strong organizational awareness and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proactive problem-solving abilities to identify risks and implement remediation strategies.
