TipTopJob is recruiting a Controls Engineer / Control Software Engineer for its East Midlands client, a leader in bespoke automation and robotic systems. The role involves writing and developing software, PLC and HMI coding for automation projects and delivering machine control solutions to meet the machinery directive.

You will design electrical systems using ePlan, work with Omron, Siemens and Allen-Bradley equipment, and ensure compliance with national and international electrical standards.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of software design and PLC coding experience.
  • Experience with Omron, Siemens and Allen-Bradley equipment is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in electrical design for machine automation using ePlan and knowledge of electrical standards.

As a result of continued success and a planned programme of strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic Controls Engineer to complement their established professional team and deliver machine control system solutions allied to a range of automated machinery:based projects.

Responsibilities

Tasked with writing and developing software, PLC and HMI coding for various automation projects, as a Controls Engineer you will also be responsible for the electrical design and creation of machine control system solutions for special purpose automated machinery projects. Other duties will include delivering control and safety systems that comply with the requirements of the machinery directive and appropriate applicable standards, and electrical system design, selection of components and generating detailed circuit diagrams as required.

Additional Responsibilities

Based near Leicester, as a Controls Engineer you will also be responsible for the integration of various robots, including SCARA, Delta and 6:axis and will liaise extensively with customers, suppliers and team members, so effective communication skills at all levels are essential for the position, and you will be comfortable in working both autonomously and as part of a team dedicated to delivering projects within budgetary and timescale constraints.

Project Lifecycle

Additionally, you will follow projects through from design, development and commissioning stages on machine control and safety systems and will be responsible for the creation of associated electrical documentation including circuit diagrams, cable schedules, installation documents BOMs. and bills of materials. You will also ensure that machine electrical systems and safety systems comply with all relevant European and international safety standards and for the correct selection and procurement of all necessary components.

Qualifications

To be considered for this varied and challenging Controls Engineer role it is envisaged that the successful candidate will demonstrate at least 5 years experience of software design and PLC coding with particular experience of working with Omron, Siemens and Allen Bradley equipment proving distinctly advantageous. You will essentially possess comprehensive skills and experience of electrical design for machine automation using ePlan, along with knowledge and understanding of the various national and international electrical standards for machine design and machine safety systems and requirements to CE mark machine systems.

Education and Travel

Realistically you will be qualified to degree level or equivalent in electrical / electronic engineering or a closely related control system discipline with a flexible approach to travel to customer sites across the UK if required.
