Job Overview

As a Controls Engineer at Gatwick Airport, your primary responsibility is to ensure the safe, resilient, and high‑performing operation of the airport's Baggage Handling and Control Systems (BHCS). This involves the design, maintenance, and continuous improvement of automated systems that manage the flow of passenger baggage from check‑in to aircraft loading and from aircraft unloading to baggage reclaim.

Responsibilities
  • Undertake and support technician teams in performance improvement activities across all systems to deliver better availability.
  • Produce effective communication and reports to stakeholders, such as Gal teams and third‑party contractors.
  • Lead and give advice on root cause investigations associated with baggage systems and IT‑related elements.
  • Prepare and review technical documentation in accordance with company procedures to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Deliver 2nd line baggage control support to shift teams 24/7/365 to enable safe, resilient and high‑performing systems.
  • Lead in preparation of technical proposals for upcoming projects.
  • Manage contractors and other technical resources to maintain baggage operation.
  • Implement PLC code changes as required.
  • Translate technical work to various business partners through stakeholder management skills.
