Job summary

Elev8 Recruitment Ltd is seeking a hands-on Controls & Commissioning Engineer in the UK. You will cover PLC programming, HMI development, testing and commissioning across the full controls lifecycle, from software development to final customer acceptance.

The role involves on-site work, with UK-based projects and occasional overseas commissioning, offering diverse engineering challenges and opportunities to see projects through to completion.

Qualifications

• Strong hands‑on PLC programming experience.
• HMI development experience.
• Experience in FAT, SAT and customer‑site commissioning.
• Experience with automated machinery or equipment.
• Knowledge of servo/motion control would be beneficial.
• Experience with Allen‑Bradley/ Rockwell systems is a plus.

Controls & Commissioning Engineer

Location: Suffolk

Salary: £65,000 - £75,000

If you enjoy getting properly hands‑on with controls, solving problems and seeing a project through from software development to a working system on-site, this is worth a look.

This is a role with plenty of technical variety, combining PLC programming, controls development, testing and commissioning rather than being tied to the same equipment every day.

The Role

We’re working with an established engineering business looking for an experienced Controls & Commissioning Engineer to join their team.

You’ll work across the full controls lifecycle, getting involved from initial software development and testing through to commissioning and final customer acceptance. It’s a genuinely hands‑on position where you’ll have the opportunity to see the end result of the work you’ve engineered.

What You’ll Be Doing

• PLC programming, development and modifications
• HMI development
• Controls and software testing
• Electrical and software fault finding
• FAT and SAT
• Customer‑site commissioning
• Making PLC/HMI changes during commissioning
• Working with drives, servo/motion and wider control systems
• Supporting projects through to final handover
• UK and occasional overseas commissioning

What They’re Looking For

• Strong hands‑on PLC programming experience
• Allen‑Bradley / Rockwell knowledge
• ControlLogix and/or CompactLogix experience
• Studio 5000 / RSLogix experience
• HMI development experience
• Strong controls and electrical fault‑finding ability
• Experience with automated machinery or equipment
• FAT, SAT and customer‑site commissioning experience
• Siemens or Mitsubishi experience would also be relevant
• Servo, motion control or robotics experience would be beneficial
