Job summary

Optima UK Inc Ltd in Coventry is seeking a skilled Control Systems Engineer to commission and service CNC machine tools, focusing on Siemens S120 drives, PLCs via STEP 7/TIA Portal, and Siemens CNC controls. The role requires reading electrical diagrams and testing safety circuits.

You’ll design and test control circuits, configure PLC/CNC systems, and ensure CE/UKCA compliance while supporting production trials; overseas travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Experience commissioning Siemens S120 drives.
• Experience with Siemens PLCs including STEP 7 and TIA Portal.
• Experience with Siemens CNC controls.
• Ability to read electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic diagrams.
• Experience with low-voltage AC and DC control circuits.
• Experience setting up inverter drives and servo motors.
• Knowledge of actuators and sensors.
• Fault-finding across electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Understanding CNC machine tools.
• Experience reading and writing PLC programs.
• Proficiency with Windows, MS Office, TIA Portal, STEP 7, EPLAN.
• Basic NC programming.
• Siemens 840D experience preferred.
• Willingness to travel overseas.

Responsibilities

• Commission CNC machine tools.
• Test electrical and safety circuits.
• Configure PLC/CNC controls (Siemens).
• Complete measuring system calibrations.
• Prepare machines for production trials.
• Load and test CNC systems, HMIs and servo drives.
• Design control circuits (hardware and PLC).
• Test machines against specifications.
• Ensure CE/UKCA compliance.
• Provide customer support.
