About The Role

As an inclusive, forward-thinking business, we take pride in our approach to investing in our people across Avara Foods and are looking for a highly competent and motivated Engineer to join our Engineering Team, based at our Telford site.

The role is a combination of factory based and office based so you’ll be working in a fast‑paced, dynamic FMCG factory environment which is noisy and refrigerated in some areas, manufacturing short‑shelf life products where hygiene standards are critical. As a Control System Technical Support Engineer you’ll be working Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00.

What will you be doing as Control System Technical Support Engineer at Avara?

As a Control System Technical Support Engineer, you will provide technical support, fault diagnosis, and continuous improvement for site automation systems, including Siemens TIA Portal, WINCC, SCADA/HMI platforms, SQL databases, industrial networking, and system integration. You will also support system development and ensure compliance within control systems.

What will your key responsibilities as a Control System Technical Support Engineer include?
  • Provide day‑to‑day support for Siemens TIA Portal‑based PLC systems (S7‑1200/1500), under guidance from senior engineer.
  • Assist with fault‑finding on production equipment including HMI and SCADA issues (WinCC, Proface, Weintek).
  • Carry out basic troubleshooting of electrical panels, sensors, I/O, and Variable Speed Drives (VSDs).
  • Support communication systems including Modbus TCP/IP and OPC (training provided).
  • Help with the maintenance of automation systems and assist in routine software backups and updates.
  • Follow preventative maintenance tasks for control systems and complete documentation.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance and production teams to minimise downtime and escalates issues as needed.
  • Contribute to simple system changes (e.g. timer tweaks, alarm edits) with support from senior engineer.
  • Participate in small automation projects under supervision.
  • Support training and documentation updates for operational use of control systems.
What You’ll Need To Be Successful
  • HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • Basic understanding of PLCs, SCADA/HMI systems, and industrial automation.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or maintenance environment.
  • Confidence in electrical fault‑finding and interpreting wiring diagrams.
  • Some experience or exposure to Siemens TIA Portal.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to learn and grow within a structured support environment.
