Control Room Operator – SP Electricity North West

Location: Manchester

Salary: £50,000 - £77,000 + Benefits

Shift Work Required (including weekends)

Control Room Operates 24/7 365 days

As a Hub Control Room Engineer, you’ll be right at the centre of the action, helping to monitor and manage the electricity distribution network that powers over five million people across the North West. Whether it's fault restoration, system control, or outage planning, you'll be making critical decisions in real time that keep homes, hospitals, schools, and businesses connected.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Monitor and manage the electricity distribution network in real‑time.
  • Take the lead on restoring customer supply during unplanned faults, meeting performance targets.
  • Perform power system analysis to support safe plant operation, generator output, and system security.
  • Liaise with internal dispatchers, field engineers, embedded generators, and other DNOs to keep everything running smoothly.
  • Deliver top‑tier customer service, especially during incidents, keeping internal teams and customers informed.
  • Always prioritise safety, following legislation and company codes of practice.

What we’re looking for

Someone who thrives under pressure and has the technical expertise to keep the lights on – quite literally. We're looking for individuals who are driven, analytical, and calm when it counts.

You’ll ideally bring
  • An HNC or equivalent in Electrical Engineering (essential)
  • A sound understanding of electrical power systems and network operation.
  • Excellent communication skills – you’ll need to be clear, calm and customer‑focused.
  • A strong focus on safety and regulatory compliance.
  • High computer literacy and confidence working with complex operational systems.
  • Great interpersonal skills – you’ll influence and collaborate across teams, customers and third parties.
  • A desire to make a difference in your community through reliable energy delivery.
  • Desirable: Authorised Person (AP) or Control Engineer authorisation with a UK DNO or IDNO.
  • Desirable: Familiarity with outage planning and fault management systems.
