A leading electricity distribution company in Cardiff is seeking candidates for a role in their Control Centre to manage high voltage distribution operations. This full-time role requires knowledge of electricity distribution and safety protocols. Opportunities are available for up to four people to join our Control Centre team at Cardiff. The role entails operation of the NGED High Voltage electricity distribution network up to 11kV, controlling both the South West and South Wales distribution area. Upon appointment, candidates will work 37 hours per week on a day rota, Monday to Friday. However, it is an expectation that people could move on to one of the other rotas in the Control Centre at a point in the future, which may include shift working on a 2-shift basis (early and late day shifts plus some weekends). Successful applicants must be available to commence in the role for a period of training on 02nd February 2026, which will last for approximately 16 weeks. You must have a minimum of a level 3 in an Engineering subject that includes some electrical modules. People who do not have a Level 4 (HNC or equivalent) qualification in Electrical Engineering may be required to complete this as part of their progression within the role. This will be agreed individually with candidates. Evidence of your qualification certificates will be required prior to appointment. Depending on experience, you may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete.

The teams in Control are focused on ensuring the network is secure, contingencies are in place and lost supplies are restored as quickly as possible, minimising customer minutes lost and customer interruptions. Based within our two Operational Centres, our Control Centres are the heartbeat of our operations, monitoring the system in real time, minimising risk of danger and managing security and faults. Control Centre teams also liaise with the National Grid Group and the Government to manage national network demand and monitor the potential for incidents or emergencies.
