Contracts Manager – Construction (Essex-Based Projects)

A growing construction firm in central Essex is seeking a driven Contracts Manager to lead projects from tender through to handover. This is a strategic, client-facing role suited to someone with a carpentry background and a strong grasp of both residential and commercial construction. You’ll work closely with the senior leadership team, managing labour, subcontractors, and materials while ensuring compliance across Health & Safety and Environmental standards. The role demands a proactive communicator who can build trust with clients, suppliers, and site teams alike.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee project programming, variations, and delivery timelines
  • Liaise with clients throughout the build lifecycle
  • Compile RAMS and ensure legislative compliance
  • Review subcontractor quotes, invoices, and estimates
  • Lead site teams and subcontractors with clarity and confidence
  • Adjust programmes to meet deadlines and budgets
  • Report regularly to Directors and contribute to strategic planning
Requirements
  • Carpentry background (essential)
  • SMSTS & CSCS certified
  • Experience managing both commercial and residential projects
  • Strong IT skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Proven ability to build trusted relationships from day one
  • Solid understanding of Health & Safety legislation
