Contracts and Claims Manager

Job Title: Contracts and Claims Manager
Location: Manchester 3 days in office
Contract Type: 6 months

We are seeking an experienced Contracts and Claims Manager to join a rapidly growing business based in Manchester. This role will support complex infrastructure and engineering projects, working closely with project, commercial, and legal teams to manage contracts, claims, and commercial risk.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support project teams with the review, interpretation, and application of customer and supplier contracts.
  • Review and screen contract-related documentation, advising management and project teams on critical contractual issues.
  • Work with PMs and CPMs to establish appropriate claims management strategies for each project.
  • Participate in customer and supplier meetings, contributing from contract negotiation, claims management, contract variation, and contract formulation perspectives.
  • Identify, evaluate, and manage all events relevant to incoming and outgoing claims involving customers and/or subcontractors.
  • Pursue or defend claims by collecting, reviewing, and advising on relevant project records, documentation, and factual evidence.
  • Prepare, analyse, and manage claim documentation and evidence in line with contractual requirements and deadlines.
  • Support CPMs and PMs, or lead where required, in drafting contractual correspondence, notifications, and formal communications.
  • Contribute to preparation for disputes, adjudications, or arbitrations as required.
  • Support or lead the drafting of contract variations, deeds of amendment, settlement agreements, and subcontractor agreements.
  • Work closely with legal and commercial teams to coordinate document reviews and obtain necessary legal approvals.
  • Support procurement activities by advising on commercial and administrative terms and conditions for subcontracts.
  • Assist in evaluating contractual risk exposure and identifying mitigation strategies.
  • Undertake contract analysis to identify opportunities for customer claims and positive contract variations.
  • Ensure commercial requirements are met and contractual rights and entitlements are protected throughout the project life cycle.
  • Contribute to the development of robust, business-wide claims management processes and share best practice and lessons learned.
About you
  • Proven experience in contract management and commercial management.
  • Strong understanding of EPC contract terms and conditions.
  • Experience managing claims, variations, and subcontractor agreements.
  • Background in construction, civil engineering, or related engineering industries.
  • Experience working on projects such as substations, HVDC, interconnectors, wind farms, transmission, or power plant construction is highly desirable.
  • Degree-qualified, ideally in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Contract Law, or a related discipline.
  • Legal, Contract Law, or Construction Law qualifications are advantageous.
  • Quantity Surveying experience and relevant qualifications are an advantage.
  • Experience setting up and negotiating subcontract terms and conditions.
  • Strong team player, able to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Tenacious and detail-oriented, with the perseverance to see complex matters through to completion.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commercially aware, with an understanding of wider project and business objectives.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong, sustainable relationships with customers and suppliers.
