Job summary

A leading engineering consulting firm in Shoreham is seeking a Mechanical Support Technician to assist with mechanical tasks in support of development programmes. The role includes assembling mechanical systems, fabricating parts, and adhering to safety standards. Ideal candidates will have practical experience and recent forklift training. This is a contract role for an initial three-month period.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrable, practical experience in the assembly / disassembly of mechanical components.
  • Recent forklift truck training, evidenced by training completion certificate.
  • Detailed and methodical approach with flexibility to adapt.
  • Ability to read & interpret engineering drawings essential.

  • Fabrication of simple parts using various techniques.

Job description

Due to high workload from a number of exciting projects, we are looking to recruit a Mechanical Support Technician to work at our Shoreham office. Working as part of the Installation Team, as a Mechanical Support Technician you'll be assisting with a wide variety of mechanical tasks in support of new and existing test and development programmes, working alongside others or independently, following written guidance or verbal instructions. The role will report to the Installation Manager and will require working in close cooperation with internal customers and other team members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assembly of mechanical systems, e.g. pipework, test frames, air and exhaust ducting
  • Fabrication of simple parts in various materials; various jigging, bending and sheet‑metal joining techniques
  • Decommissioning, disassembly and cleaning of test equipment following completion of projects
  • Moving of equipment around site using forklift truck
  • Adherence to safety rules and following of controls identified by risk assessments

This is a contract opportunity to support the team during a time of high workload and is initially for a three month period.

Qualifications
  • Demonstrable, practical experience in the assembly / disassembly of mechanical components & assemblies.
  • Recent (within the last three years) forklift truck training, evidenced by training completion certificate.
  • A detailed and methodical approach, with the flexibility to adapt to changing situations and requirements.
  • Having any of the following skills would be of benefit:
    • Demonstrable, practical experience in the use of manual machining techniques including setting & operating lathes, drilling machines, metal saws, linasing & grinding machines.
    • Demonstrable, practical experience in the use of sheet‑metal fabrication equipment including guillotine, roller, folding & punching equipment.
    • Demonstrable, practical experience in the use of electric & gas welding equipment including TIG, MIG, Oxy‑Fuel & plasma cutting equipment.
    • Ability to read & interpret engineering drawings & schematics & use common hand‑measuring equipment such as micrometers, vernier callipers, clocks, gauges & laser alignment equipment essential.
  • Ricardo values flexibility in their workforce – a willingness to work outside normal working hours when required (long or shifted days / weekend working) would be desirable.
  • PC skills including Word and Excel are desirable.
