Hours of work: 36 hours per week

Water Hygiene Contracts Manager

Lead Croydon's water safety programme and ensure our homes are safe and compliant.

About the role
  • Lead the water safety programme, including Legionella control, written schemes of control, and remedial works.
  • Act as the subject matter expert on water hygiene, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Ensure all risk assessments are completed, and any remedial actions are completed promptly.
  • Commission and manage water hygiene contracts, ensuring performance, value for money, and contractor competence.
  • Provide governance assurance, incident management, and liaison with regulators such as HSE and Environmental Health.
  • Develop and deliver staff and contractor training to promote awareness and embed safe working practices.
  • Manage budgets of around £1.5m, ensuring effective use of resources and accurate reporting.
  • Prepare monthly performance reports to present to Senior staff members.
  • Manage and monitor budgets, preparing draft budget proposals each year for servicing, upgrades, and new installations.
  • Work with the Business Support Manager to address all complaints and ensure enquiries are responded to in a timely manner.
  • Carry out one to ones, appraisals, and performance reviews with team members.
  • Undertake the out of hours duty manager role on a rota basis.
About you
  • Strong technical knowledge, experience, and understanding of water hygiene and compliance standards.
  • Qualified as Legionella Responsible Person (or substantial experience with commitment to qualification).
  • Experienced in contract management, procurement, and performance monitoring.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, able to reassure residents and work with regulators.
  • A collaborative leader with strong risk management and problem‑solving skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.
