Job description

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Contracts Manager to oversee the electrical aspects of a large-scale MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) healthcare hospital project, valued at £48 million. This role requires a highly skilled professional with extensive expertise in electrical engineering and project management. The successful candidate will ensure the project is delivered efficiently, on time, and within budget, while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management: Lead and manage all electrical contract aspects of the project, ensuring compliance with programme and budget requirements.
  • Planning and Coordination: Develop and maintain detailed project plans and schedules. Coordinate effectively with other MEP disciplines, contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders.
  • Resource Management: Allocate labour, materials, and equipment to meet project requirements and deadlines efficiently.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all electrical installations comply with applicable regulations, codes, and industry standards. Carry out inspections and audits to maintain quality standards.
  • Safety Compliance: Enforce strict health and safety protocols on-site, addressing and resolving safety issues promptly.
  • Budget Control: Monitor and manage project costs, ensuring the scheme remains within budget. Prepare accurate financial reports.
  • Risk Management: Identify and manage potential risks relating to electrical works, developing contingency strategies where required.
  • Client Communication: Act as the primary client interface, providing progress updates, resolving issues, and ensuring overall satisfaction.
  • Documentation Management: Maintain accurate records including permits, contracts, change orders, and project progress reports.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor project managers, engineers, supervisors, and subcontractors within the electrical team. Promote a collaborative, productive working environment.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience: Proven track record in electrical engineering and project management, with successful delivery of large-scale MEP projects, ideally in the healthcare sector.
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of electrical systems, current codes, and industry regulations. Proficiency in project management software and digital tools.
  • Leadership: Ability to inspire, motivate, and lead diverse teams effectively.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
  • Problem‑Solving: Demonstrated ability to resolve complex challenges under pressure.
  • Attention to Detail: High levels of accuracy and focus to ensure compliance with technical and quality standards.
  • Core Electrical Qualifications:
  • 236 Part 1 & 2 Electrical Installation
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) – mandatory UK standard for compliance and safety
  • City & Guilds 2391 – Inspection & Testing certification
  • JIB Gold Card (Approved Electrician status) – demonstrating recognised competency
  • Certifications:
  • SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) – essential for managing site health and safety
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) or PRINCE2 – desirable for structured project delivery
  • NEC3/NEC4 Contract Training – familiarity expected in public sector and healthcare projects
