Contract Maintenance Engineer

Location: Cheshire

Rate: £35ph Outside IR35

Shifts: 3 Shift 6-2/2-10/10-6

The Role

We are seeking a Contract Maintenance Engineer with strong experience in automated warehouse environments. You will be responsible for providing reactive, preventive, and continuous improvement maintenance across a range of automated equipment.

This role requires a multi-skilled engineer with a mechanical bias, solid electrical competency, and a proven track record in fast-paced automation or logistics settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reactive and planned maintenance on automated conveyor systems, sortation equipment, palletisers, AS/RS systems, robotics, and associated material handling assets
  • Fault finding on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
  • Performing component replacements, mechanical strip-downs, alignment, and adjustments
  • Supporting root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Working safely at height on high bay automation infrastructure
  • Completing maintenance documentation and ensuring compliance with site standards
  • Delivering high levels of support during peak operational periods
  • Collaborating with engineering and operations teams to minimise downtime
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Apprentice trained (mechanical or multi-skilled pathway)
  • Strong mechanical skillset with competent electrical knowledge (fault finding / safe isolation)
  • Experience within automated warehousing, distribution centres, FMCG automation, or material handling environments
  • Knowledge of conveyors, motors, gearboxes, bearings, sensors, drives, pneumatics, and hydraulics
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and electrical schematics
  • Valid Working at Height and Rescue at Height training
  • Strong problem-solving capability and ability to work autonomously
