Job summary

A leading recruitment agency seeks an experienced Mechanical Engineer for a workshop-based contract in Burton upon Trent. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical engineering background and proven experience with pumps, valves, and pipework systems. This position offers a competitive rate of £35-£38 per hour and starts in January. Candidates with FMCG or food manufacturing experience are preferred.

Overview

Mechanical Engineer (Workshop) - January Start

Location: Burton upon Trent

Rate: £35-£38 per hour (Outside IR35)

Contract: 3-month initial contract (Days, starting January)

Industry: FMCG / Food Manufacturing

Mason James Appointments is partnered with an industry-leading FMCG / Food Manufacturing business based in Burton upon Trent.

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join the team on a days-based contract role, working primarily in the onsite workshop.

This position will focus on repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment, including pumps, valves, pipework and associated systems. You will play a key role in ensuring equipment reliability and supporting ongoing production efficiency.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out mechanical repairs and maintenance on pumps, valves, and pipework.
  • Fault-find and service mechanical systems and components.
  • Support workshop activities and refurbishment of mechanical assemblies.
  • Work to high standards of safety, hygiene, and quality in a food/FMCG environment.
Skills & Experience
  • Strong mechanical engineering background - workshop or maintenance-based.
  • Proven experience with pumps, valves, and general pipework systems.
  • Experience within Food, FMCG, or Packaging environments is essential.
  • Hands-on, mechanically minded, and able to work independently.
  • Able to start in January.
