Contextual Safeguarding Co‑Ordinator – Cheshire West & Chester Council
Location: CH65 0BE
Contract: 3 - 6 months (possible extension / permanent offer for the right candidate)
Work pattern: full time, hybrid, flexible worker
Enhanced DBS required.
Key Accountabilities
- Support the development of the Contextual Safeguarding Strategy and practice guidance locally and at the Pan‑Cheshire level, ensuring local processes align with these.
- Coordinate and provide administrative support (including minute-taking) to meetings linked to Contextual Safeguarding, such as the weekly Contextual Safeguarding Hub.
- Coordinate meetings to support partners in gathering intelligence and sharing information (e.g., mapping meetings, context meetings).
- Keep the contextual safeguarding platform and child electronic files up to date, and contribute to embedding a robust performance dashboard for high‑quality reporting.
- Support the Practice Manager in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on Contextual Safeguarding.
- Ensure robust plans are in place for children and young people, monitor their effectiveness, attend child‑level meetings, and drive improvements in practice when necessary.
- Liaise with other local authorities having children placed in Cheshire West where contextual safeguarding concerns have been identified.
- Raise awareness of Contextual Safeguarding across the county by working with the Safeguarding Children Partnership Training Officer, contributing to training and awareness‑raising sessions for diverse professional groups.
- Develop a network of Contextual Safeguarding Champions within organisations to drive development within single agencies.
- Maintain and develop effective relationships with partner agencies at operational and strategic levels, holding each partner to account with a high‑support, high‑challenge approach to improve service delivery and outcomes for children.
- Seek the views of children and young people to inform service provision and test the effectiveness of interventions.
Requirements
- Essential: Educated to degree level or equivalent job‑related qualification.
- Essential: Experience of working with children and families.
- Essential: Experience of assessing risk in the context of abuse, neglect and safeguarding.
- Essential: Experience of chairing meetings or panels.
- Essential: Experience of minuting meetings.
- Essential: Experience of using IT applications (Excel, Word, Electronic Management Systems, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Essential: Experience of contributing to the development of policies and procedures as required.
- Essential: Sound knowledge of safeguarding systems.
- Essential: Sound knowledge of contextual safeguarding.
- Essential: Sound knowledge of legislation, practice, policy and procedures related to Child Sexual Exploitation, Criminal Exploitation, Modern Slavery and Trafficking, Domestic Abuse and harmful practices (including Female Genital Mutilation, Force Marriage, Honour Based Abuse).
- Essential: Ability to analyse information and produce clear and concise reports.
- Essential: Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
