Overview

Our Group Media, Content and Campaigns Manager develops strategies, stories and content to help us deliver our ambition of providing outstanding care, together.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning of external campaigns, for example in relation to winter preparedness.
  • Manage media handling for high‑profile issues, including performance, and provide media support in emergencies and major incidents.
  • Contribute to forward planning with the wider team, track current affairs—especially in relation to the NHS—and keep up with breaking news.
  • Brief and support staff for broadcast and print interviews, and advise senior colleagues on media approach.
  • Research and write positive and engaging stories for media; develop relationships with key journalists.
  • Create engaging content for external channels, including social media platforms; communicate with key stakeholders.
  • Handle reactive media enquiries; oversee social media channels; research and write press releases, statements, social media content and website stories.
  • Participate in emergency planning activity, providing media support and responding efficiently to major incidents.
  • Organise media interviews, brief spokespeople, and handle difficult questions.
  • Organise broadcast opportunities and ensure policies are adhered to.
  • Plan media handling strategies for difficult or contentious topics.
  • Remain calm and polite in difficult situations, showing empathy, patience and understanding when dealing with journalists, patients, families or staff.
  • Build and develop relationships with key clinical staff, managers and other staff to promote advice and assistance, and encourage sharing of news and achievements.
  • Build and develop relationships with key journalists—broadcast, print and digital, including trade publications—and brief them on reactive and proactive stories.
  • Manage and respond to media enquiries, providing expert advice on handling, writing reactive lines and gaining sign‑off in a timely manner.
  • Monitor and evaluate media coverage, carrying out rebuttals and corrections as needed.
  • Support or manage VIP, MP or ministerial visits, liaising with press/PR colleagues at the visitor’s office.
  • Ensure good records of national, regional, local and trade media contacts.
  • Ensure all press releases are uploaded to the relevant Trust’s website and social channels, keeping pages and channels up to date.
