Job description

Our client is a container haulage company based in Leeds. They are looking for an experienced Transport Planner to join their team.

Role Overview

Transport Planner (Containers) to take full ownership of transport planning for Yorkshire operations. This role is critical in ensuring the efficient and compliant movement of containerized goods, delivering exceptional service to customers while optimizing operational performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take complete ownership of transport planning for Yorkshire operations.
  • Oversee the delivery and execution of daily transport plans.
  • Collaborate with the North‑West team to ensure smooth handovers for nighttime operations.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for customer queries related to deliveries, collections, and late runner updates.
  • Plan and schedule container movements, manage bookings, and oversee collections and deliveries.
  • Liaise with internal teams, subcontractors, shipping lines, and ports/rail terminals to ensure seamless operations.
  • Optimize subcontractor usage to balance volume requirements and daily revenue targets.
  • Monitor KPIs and proactively resolve operational issues and delays.
  • Ensure compliance with UK road transport regulations, driver hours, and the Working Time Directive (WTD).
  • Develop and implement transport strategies to enhance efficiency, safety, and cost effectiveness.
Skills & Experience Required
  • Proven experience in container transport planning and operations management.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK transport regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to work under pressure and resolve operational challenges quickly.

Hours for the role are 6 am until 6 pm Monday – Friday.

Salary is dependent on experience, between £35 k – £48 k.
