Job summary

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Whole-Time Consultant Vascular Surgeon to join the Sheffield Vascular Service, based at the Northern General Hospital. • Provide elective and 24-hour emergency vascular services for Sheffield and surrounding area.
• Operate as consultant with a rolling rota and consultant-of-the-week model.
• Develop and maintain endovascular services including EVARs.
• Participate in teaching, CME/CPD and audit.
• Engage in clinical governance and service improvement.

We are looking to appoint to a whole-Time Consultant Vascular Surgeon to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Main duties of the job

TheSheffield Vascular Serviceprovides the vascular services at the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and is based on Firth 2 wardat the Northern General Hospital site. Theserviceprovides elective and24 houremergency vascular services for Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley and surrounding districts with a tertiary referral population of approximately 1.25 millionalong with carotid services to North Derbyshire.

The currentconsultant workingarrangement is a 14-week rolling rota staffed by 7 people with fixed commitments, with a consultant of the week model and annualised job plans.

Person specification

Qualifications

• Full and Specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for registration within six months of interview. If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT)
• Appropriate higher surgical qualification in Vascular Surgery (eg FRCS, FEBVS)
• Clinical training and experience in vascular surgery equivalent to that required for UK CCST
• MD or PhD or equivalent

Clinical experience

• Appropriate clinical training and experience in vascular surgery
• Ability to work as an independent practitioner in the specialty covered by the post.
• Endovascular skills/experience to undertake independent EVARs and lower limb angioplasty/stenting

Research

• Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate
• Publications in Peer reviewed journals.
• Ideas for future research whilst in post

Teaching and training

• Experience of teaching medical students and junior doctors

Continuous Professional Development

• Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months
• Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio

Management and Administration

• Evidence of ability to work with management and previous experience of management groups.

Clinical governance and audit

• Experience in performing clinical audit
• Completion and publication of a substantive audit project or service improvement project

Personal attributes

• Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values
• Good oral and written communication skills
