A leading healthcare provider in the UK seeks a Consultant Urological Surgeon to join a supportive team in Torquay. The role offers opportunities in a new Urology Investigations Unit, robotic surgery training, and a chance to work alongside experienced professionals in patient-focused care. Ideal candidates are GMC registered and committed to high-quality healthcare delivery.
The closing date is 03 December 2025
Join a progressive, supportive team in one of the UK's most beautiful coastal regions.
We are looking to appoint a Consultant Urological Surgeon to join our friendly and forward‑thinking department at Torbay Hospital. Whether you're newly qualified or an experienced consultant looking for a fresh start in the South West, we would be delighted to hear from you.
This is an exciting time to join our team. In 2024 a new Urology Investigations Unit opened, another significant milestone in the Torbay and South Devon's Building Brighter Future programme.
As well as a recent introduction of a robotic surgical system from CMR Surgical, this development reflects our commitment to innovation and excellence. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to undertake access training on the system, with a view to developing robotic services. You will be joining a cohesive team of three consultant urological surgeons and one part‑time retiree who work collaboratively across inpatient, outpatient and day case services, with a strong emphasis on mutual support, teaching and quality care.
The successful candidates will assist in providing a comprehensive general and specialised urology service for the population of South Devon. We have close links, excellent working relationships and established pathways with the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital, the regional Pelvic Cancer Centre. There is an opportunity for cross‑site working for suitably skilled candidates.
We are also looking to expand our paediatric urology service across Torbay and the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital, and a special interest in this would be welcomed. Both hospitals are a short distance apart served by excellent road links.
All specialty interests will be considered. Of particular value would be an interest in benign prostate outlet surgery including holmium laser enucleation, aquablation and rezum and/or paediatric urology. An interest in urological cancers, in particular prostate and bladder, would be most welcome.
Other sub‑specialist interests will be considered.
The ability to communicate and work effectively as part of a multi‑disciplinary team is vital. It is also anticipated that the successful candidates would contribute to increasing the national profile of the department.
Why Torbay?
Torbay and South Devon offers an exceptional lifestyle. Nestled between Dartmoor National Park and the stunning South Devon coastline, the area boasts sandy beaches, excellent schools (including a grammar school system), a mild climate and vibrant local communities. There's something for everyone – from coastal walks and sailing to music, food and cultural festivals.
The region is well‑connected, just a short drive to Exeter, plus direct rail links to Central London in under 3 hours, making it easy to maintain national professional networks or family ties. Ongoing regeneration includes new homes, town‑centre investment and improved transport links – making this not just a great place to work, but an inspiring place to live.
We warmly welcome informal enquiries and visits.
