Job description
Job Summary

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well‑established team at the Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust. The department is successful, with twin sites at New Cross Hospital and Cannock Chase Hospital (trauma and elective sites).

The post is for a Consultant Lower Limb Surgeon with a specialist interest in Primary Hip and Knee Arthroplasty. Candidates must hold a Lower Limb Arthroplasty Fellowship to join the existing complement of consultants. An additional Trauma fellowship and experience is desirable and the role will support complex lower limb trauma as needed.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide a general Trauma & Orthopaedic Service with a specialist focus on primary hip and knee arthroplasty.
  • Complete a lower limb arthroplasty fellowship (essential) and, where possible, an additional fellowship in trauma.
  • Carry out ward rounds, clinics, administration and inpatient support for colleagues.
  • Engage in teaching (undergraduate and postgraduate) and participate in audit and clinical governance activities.
  • Take part in the rolling trauma rota (1 in 10 week). Two consultants cover the 7‑day on‑call rota, rotating between fracture clinics and trauma theatres.
  • Support the Cannock Chase Elective Hub, liaising with registrar ward rounds, 24/7 on‑call staff and an anaesthetic registrar.
On‑Call Arrangements and Patient Coverage
  • Weekend On‑Call: Friday 17:00 – Monday 17:00.
  • Weekday On‑Call: Monday 17:00 – Friday 17:00.
  • Routine work commitments are suspended while on‑call to allow full trauma coverage.
Qualifications and Experience
  • FRCS (or equivalent qualification) and a current GMC Registration.
  • Current specialist register in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery or within 6 months of obtaining CCT/CESR at interview.
  • Lower Limb Arthroplasty Fellowship (essential); Trauma Fellowship (desirable).
Working Pattern

Permanent, Full‑time – 1 in 10 week rota with a 7‑day working commitment. Flexible working to utilise hospital facilities such as theatres and outpatient clinics.
