Job summary

A leading cancer treatment center in Greater London is seeking a Consultant for the Head, Neck and Thyroid Unit. This role focuses on surgical management of oral and maxillofacial malignancies and includes responsibilities such as multidisciplinary meetings and emergency cover for reconstruction. Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years in head and neck surgery, and expertise in robotic techniques is desirable. The position offers a competitive salary of £109,725 to £145,478 per annum.

Qualifications

  • Subspeciality training/experience in Head & Neck Oncology.
  • Formal training and subsequent significant experience including in Head and Neck Oncology reconstruction.

Job description

This is a consultant post within the Head, Neck and Thyroid Unit, with the primary role being the surgical management of oral and maxillofacial malignancies. The Unit has considerable referral volumes of patients with recurrent cancers, and pioneers robotic and minimally invasive surgery and complex free flap reconstructions for these tumours. The key aim of this post will be to provide reconstruction and specifically involving free-flaps to the service. This will be in collaboration with the plastic surgery team with respect to after hours emergency cover for free flap reconstruction who provide in-hours support for Head and Neck reconstruction.

Main duties of the job
  • Attendance at multidisciplinary team meetings
  • So far as is consistent with the proper discharge of the above duties the postholder undertakes to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues.
  • The postholder undertakes exceptionally to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
  • The postholder undertakes exceptionally to be available for such irregular commitments outside normally rostered duties as are essential for continuity of patient care.
  • The post holder will be expected to provide prospective and cross cover for other members of the Team.

  • Experience in robotic assisted microvascular and microneural surgery
  • Expertise in intra-tumoural therapy of novel agents for complex recurrent cancers (oncolytic viruses and radioenhancers)
