Job summary

Mid Yorkshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust seeks an experienced Interventional Radiologist to join the team at Wakefield (Pinderfields). The post supports vascular and non-vascular interventional procedures with on-site and optional cross-site activity.

The role includes monthly on-call duties, reporting vascular MRI/CT and contributing to MDTs. The successful candidate will join a large radiology service with flexible time planning and SPAs as required.

Qualifications

Full GMC Registration with licence to practise.
Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for Radiology or within 6 months of obtaining CCT.
Medical Degree from recognised medical school.
FRCR or equivalent.
Subspecialty training and experience in Vascular Imaging/intervention post FRCR 2B.
Experience in general cross-sectional reporting.

Responsibilities

Complement the Interventional Radiology team across diagnostic subspecialties.
Support and enable delivery of a sustainable excellent service for acute and elective pathways.

Job description

This post is offered on a full time (10 PA) basis although less than full time applications will be considered and additional DCC PA may be offered through negotiation depending on service need. Duties will be primarily based on our Wakefield (Pinderfields) site although all our medical staff are involved in delivering care to patients on all our sites with expectations of potential on-site presence at Dewsbury, Pontefract and/or our Community Diagnostic Centre in Wakefield.

Main duties of the job

A brief description of the post: The post is primarily to complement the existing Interventional Radiology team, whose consultants have shared commitments across various diagnostic subspecialties.

The successful candidate will support and enable the team to deliver a sustainable excellent service throughout the year for acute and elective pathways including peripheral vascular and non-vascular interventional procedures, e.g. arterial angioplasty +/- stenting, vascular access, nephrostomy, biopsy, drainage. Expertise in emergency arterial embolization would be advantageous during core working hours, with no expectation to provide that out of hours. They will report specialist vascular MRI, CT and ideally cardiac CT.

They will support the weekly Vascular multidisciplinary team (MDT) meeting, with vascular radiologist and surgical colleagues.

The department currently comprises 43 consultant radiologists, with a mix of full-time and less-than-full-time posts, who provide a wide range of subspecialist and general radiological services.

General radiology diagnostic skills are essential and the post holder is expected to contribute to the departmental general radiology workload, including acute CT.

Additional subspecialty interests can be accommodated depending on service need.

The successful applicant will be expected to participate in the non-vascular interventional on call rota, at a current frequency of 1 in 8 schedules will take due account of the provisions of working time regulations and safe working.
There is a separate diagnostic on call rota with overnight outsourcing of acute CT from 2000.
Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs) will be available in accordance with the Trust Framework, with a minimum of 1.5 SPAs included in the core 10PA timetable. Additional SPA or DCC time may be commissioned in line with the skills of the successful candidate and changing requirements of the service this may include formal teaching or leadership roles.
The provisional timetable shown below represents the anticipated PA commitments, but may be adjusted by negotiation to suit the appointee and fulfil service requirements. This comprises 8.5 PAs of direct clinical care (DCC) and 1.5 core SPA (supporting professional activity).
Networked working arrangements will be considered to provide specialist clinical work not performed at MYNHST through agreement with local NHS trusts.
Teleradiology is in use and all Consultants are provided with access to a notebook PC or home workstation with secure VPN Broadband connection to enable connection to the Trust network for remote reporting.
Office Space is provided across the trust in a flexible arrangement depending on site presence within an agreed job plan. Pooled secretarial support will be provided.
