Job description

Priory Hospital Bristol is looking to recruit a Consultant Psychiatrist Private Addictions Ward/Medical Director to join the team. This is a part-time role of 22.5 or 30 hours that can be over three or four days. Bristol is an ideal place for treating people with complex disorders, including people who may not have responded to previous treatment. We can guarantee that our comprehensive treatment programmes are guided by current evidence-based research. As a Consultant Psychiatrist Private Addictions/Medical Director, you will be accountable for, but not exclusively limited to, the following areas of responsibility.

  • Lead the recruitment, induction, and probation of doctors in line with company policies, ensuring compliance with training requirements, specialist registration, and practising privileges for visiting consultants.
  • Oversee medical staff appraisals, revalidation processes, and performance management, taking decisive action on any behavioural or clinical concerns in collaboration with the Hospital Director and HR.
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership as part of the Senior Management Team (SMT), ensuring healthcare policy, clinical governance, and best practice standards are effectively implemented and maintained.
  • Ensure effective medical cover across all levels, including robust arrangements for out-of-hours and annual leave, to guarantee safe and consistent service delivery.
  • Lead on clinical investigations, complaints, and crisis management, working closely with the Group Medical Director and Clinical Director to resolve issues and drive improvements.
  • Contribute to continuous learning by overseeing complaints, incidents, benchmarking, and service user feedback, ensuring lessons are embedded across the hospital.
  • Maintain your own clinical caseload, complete mandatory training, and represent the hospitals clinical expertise and innovation with commissioners, partners, and stakeholders.

    Priory Hospital Bristol is an elegant 18th century country residence set in beautiful parkland close to the centre of Bristol, less than 5 minutes away from the M32 leading directly onto the M4/M5 motorway. Bristol is part of the Healthcare Division of Priory Group it has 77 beds over seven wards varying from Eating Disorders, Acute Mental Health, Adult Psychiatric Intensive Care, Acquired Brain Injury, Huntingdons and Dementia.
