Job summary

Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is a General Medical Council (GMC) Sponsor Employer. This Consultant Psychiatrist role attracts a Recruitment and Retention payment of £25,000 in addition to an £8,000 relocation allowance. The RRP is pro‑rata for part‑time staff.

Responsibilities

As Consultant Psychiatrist you will take Responsible Clinician duties, lead ward rounds, support clinical decision‑making, and shape the service’s ongoing development. You will work closely with Home Treatment Teams, community services, and families to support safe discharge and recovery. The post‑holder will deliver consultant psychiatric input to inpatients admitted to the ward per the Acute Service Operational Policy and will provide clinical leadership and be actively involved in service improvement activities.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • MBBS or equivalent recognised medical qualification
  • Full medical registration with a licence to practice
  • Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act (or within 6–12 months of the time of interview/assessment)
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months

Desirable:

  • Relevant higher degree (MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications)
  • MRCPsych or equivalent
  • Management qualification or evidence of an interest in developing leadership skills
  • In good standing with GMC concerning warnings and conditions on practice
  • Approved clinician status or able to achieve within three months of appointment
