Job summary

Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust seeks a consultant psychiatrist for the Learning Disability Team serving Daventry and South Northamptonshire. You will lead clinically within a multidisciplinary group and supervise junior medical staff, influencing care and training across the Trust.

Travel to all Trust locations is required; GMC registration with CCT in learning disabilities or equivalent is needed, along with Section 12 approval to act as Responsible Clinician.

Qualifications

• MRCPsych or equivalent is required.
• Full GMC registration is essential.
• Specialist register or CCT in learning disabilities, or within six months of CCT on the AAs date.
• Section 12 approval under the Mental Health Act, able to act as Responsible Clinician.
• Minimum of six years postgraduate experience, including three years as SpR in an approved training post.

Responsibilities

• Provide consultant psychiatry care within the Learning Disability Team.
• Work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Motivate and develop junior medical staff and other MDT members.
• Balance individual requirements against those of the Directorate and Trust.
• Present complex information to varied audiences, including tribunals.

Job description

This consultant psychiatrist post sits within the Learning Disability Team at Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, covering the Daventry and South Northamptonshire area. The work centres on clinical leadership within a multidisciplinary team, including supervising and developing junior medical staff. The Trust runs a research portfolio in old age dementia and physical health and hosts medical undergraduates for teaching, and the role requires travel across all Trust locations. Fit depends on specialist or CCT-in-learning-disabilities registration and Section 12 approval to act as Responsible Clinician.
