Qualifications

  • Full GMC registration and on the Specialist Register, with an appropriate CCT or equivalent; or within six months of obtaining your CCT.
  • Preferred experience in older adult or dementia mental health services.

Overview

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and passionate part‑time Consultant Psychiatrist in older adult community mental health services. The community team is based at Harland Centre, providing services mainly to dementia patients and to elderly patients in Southend and surrounding areas.

EPUT is looking for motivated staff who share our Trust values of Care, Learn and Empower.

Responsibilities
  • Provide senior clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team; responsible for referrals from your own patch and for the clinical leadership role within the team.
  • Carry out new assessments for complex cases personally and support other team members to assess referrals through supervision; expected to conduct 3 outpatient clinics and 1 domiciliary visit clinic per day, seeing approximately 3 new patients and 10‑12 follow‑up patients per session.
  • Oversee the clinical management of patients within the service through weekly multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Conduct complex diagnostic memory assessments and provide supervision to nurses who conduct less complex assessments; diagnostic process supported by a psychologist when a neuropsychology assessment is required, and conduct disclosure appointments to inform patients of diagnosis and initiate treatment if appropriate.
  • Support nurses in coordinating care for people with complex problems, promote active case‑load management, attend multi‑professional meetings, and carry out Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act assessments when appropriate.
  • Provide clinical advice to team members during working hours, assist the duty system for triaging and emergency assessments, and supervise urgent reviews of patients within the service.
  • Cover for holidays and absences to colleagues with mutual consultation and agreement.
Qualifications
  • Full GMC registration and on the Specialist Register, with an appropriate CCT or equivalent; or be within six months of obtaining your CCT on the date of the AAC.
  • Experience in older adult or dementia mental health services preferred.
