A healthcare organization is seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to provide leadership to the Community Mental Health Services for Older People in Redcar. The role requires a medical qualification, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage complex clinical cases. The position offers a salary of £109,725 to £145,478 annually with full-time flexible working. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team and play a key role in serving a population of older adults with mental health challenges.
This is a full-time (1.0 WTE) Consultant Psychiatrist post providing clinical and medical leadership to the Community Mental Health Services for Older Peoples team in Redcar and Cleveland. The role has become vacant due to the relocation of the previous post-holder and will work with another consultant psychiatrist colleague in a well-established community team.
The population served by the Redcar and Cleveland Mental Health Service Older Peoples CMHT is approximately 30,000 aged over 65 years from a total population of 136,718 (POPPI 2018). The service operates on a need-led basis, so some of the over‑65 population traditionally served by MHSOP may be served by Adult Mental Health Services.
The Consultant is an integral member of a large, enthusiastic, and well-managed integrated multidisciplinary team. The role requires flexibility to adapt to changing demands across various areas of the service and includes the requirement to undertake home visits. The Redcar locality is split into two consultant posts: one responsible for the organic client group and the other for the functional client group.
Services are delivered to older people with mental health problems and frailty-related complexities, and include referrals for young onset dementia patients.
The post provides consultant leadership to the community team, working closely with other consultant colleagues in the Teesside area CMHTs, and with inpatient MHSOP services. The consultant will be responsible for the delivery of mental health services to the older population of approximately 30,000, shared amongst two consultants (including this post) providing a total of 1.8 WTE consultant input. The consultant may also be asked to take on Responsible Clinician duties for patients subject to Community Treatment Orders and will prioritise Mental Health Act assessments for their own patients during working hours. Ad hoc Section 49 Mental Capacity Act reports may be required and are shared evenly among the consultant body, attracting an hourly fee.
