Overview

The newly transformed community service has been designed following the NHS Long Term Plan which seeks to address gaps in care provision and ensure that people experiencing severe mental illness and difficulties get the care they need.

Mental health services need to ensure that:

  • People can have a good-quality assessment at whatever point they present.
  • Interventions for mental health problems are readily available and accessible at the location most appropriate to people's needs.
  • Care can be stepped up where or when more specialist care is required, and stepped down, in a flexible manner.
  • There are effective links with community assets to support and enable people to become more embedded within their community to support their mental health.
Responsibilities

Duties will be in line with those of a Consultant Psychiatrist in a community setting. The post holder will work with the MDT colleagues and other agencies to deliver safe and effective care to patients referred to secondary care with psychotic and mood disorders, trauma based presentations and personality disorder. The post holder will provide regular clinical reviews and provide clinical leadership to the MDT. Given the nature of the work, there will be responsibilities in relation to the Mental Health Act (CTOs). Post holder also provides supervision to junior medical staff. There will be a requirement for significant liaison with colleagues with Inpatient and Crisis services to facilitate transitions, planning care and discharge.

We are seeking to appoint a full time (10 PAs) Consultant Psychiatrist in the East CMHT service based at St Mary's House. This vacancy is a result of a Consultant colleague's retirement.

Visa and Sponsorship

Applicants should be aware that individuals requiring a visa to work in the UK, the Trust only provides sponsorship for registered healthcare practitioner roles (this does not include Healthcare Support Workers). Contract and Safeguarding

Fixed Term Contracts for existing NHS Employees - temporary contracts for employees of LYPFT, or colleagues joining from another NHS Trust, will be offered on a secondment basis wherever possible. In the event this is not possible, an FTC would be issued and this would require a break in service of two weeks.

The purpose of a temporary is role could be for maternity cover, temporary funding or some other reason. At the end of which the need for the temporary work will cease. Temporary roles can stop, be extended and/or made permanent at any point during the period of work. Should the role become permanent then the post-holder will be informed of the process to be followed to convert the position to a permanent one.

All new employees are required to subscribe to the DBS Update Service.
