Job summary

Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a full-time substantive Consultant Psychiatrist for the Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) in Bury. This community-based role offers opportunities for professional development, involvement in service redesign, and contribution to teaching and research activities.

Main duties of the job

1. Provide high-quality mental health care for adults with severe and enduring mental health problems in the community.
2. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and other consultants to ensure cohesive and effective mental health services in Bury.
3. Support service development initiatives and participate in local and divisional meetings.

About us

The post is based at the Irwell Unit, Fairfield General Hospital, Bury. The service operates on an Inpatient-Outpatient model with a team of 6 full-time Consultants in Adult Psychiatry. Each Consultant is supported by a Junior Doctor, advanced practitioners, and a part-time EIT consultant.

Job responsibilities

Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register, eligible for inclusion, or within six months of obtaining a CCT in General Adult Psychiatry at interview. The role involves low-frequency on-call duties (1 in 30) with full second-tier support and one day off after on-call. The Trust offers opportunities for professional development and additional work for extra PAs, subject to negotiation.

Person Specification: Essential

• MBChB or equivalent
• GMC Specialist Register eligibility or inclusion
• Higher psychiatric training or equivalent
• Section 12 approval under Mental Health Act 1983 or eligibility; Approved Clinician status or eligibility
• Experience in teaching and training

Person Specification: Desirable

• MRCPsych or equivalent; other postgraduate degrees (MSc, MD, MRCP)
• CCT in General Adult Psychiatry or within 6 months of achievement
• Experience with detention under MHA 1983
• Experience writing reports for Mental Health Review Tribunals
• Experience as an educational supervisor
