Qualifications

• GMC Registration with a valid Licence to Practise.
• Inclusion on GMC Specialist Register for General Adult Psychiatry or Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (or within 6 months of CCT / CESR).
• MRCPsych qualification or equivalent international post-graduate medical qualification.
• Active Approved Clinician (AC) status and valid Section 12 approval under the Mental Health Act.
• NHS experience as a Consultant Psychiatrist in eating disorders or specialized adult mental health settings.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, physical health evaluations, and complex risk management reviews as per MEED guidelines.

• Lead weekly MDT clinical reviews, CPA meetings, and complex case conferences.
• Formulate pharmacological treatment plans and monitor high-risk patients with severe nutritional compromise.

Evolve Staffing Ltd. is leading a specialist medical recruitment drive to appoint an experienced Consultant in Eating Disorders Psychiatry for a reputable NHS Trust service operating in Swindon.

This senior clinical post requires an expert Consultant Psychiatrist capable of delivering high-quality, evidence-based psychiatric assessments, medical evaluations, and holistic treatment plans for adult patients presenting with severe and complex eating disorders, including Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, and Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID). The appointed medical practitioner will work closely with an established multidisciplinary team (MDT) comprising clinical psychologists, specialist dietitians, psychiatric nurses, and occupational therapists to manage both outpatient pathways and intensive community interventions.

Core Clinical Responsibilities:

• Provide senior clinical leadership and overarching medical management for adult patients receiving care within the specialized Eating Disorder service.
• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, physical health evaluations, and complex risk management reviews in adherence to the Medical Emergencies in Eating Disorders (MEED) guidelines.
• Serve as the Approved Clinician (AC) and Section 12(2) doctor, exercising statutory duties under the Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007) and the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
• Lead weekly multidisciplinary team (MDT) clinical reviews, Care Programme Approach (CPA) meetings, and complex case conferences.
• Formulate pharmacological treatment plans and supervise the physical monitoring of high-risk patients experiencing severe nutritional compromise and medical instability.
• Engage in clinical governance, medical audits, quality improvement projects, and the educational supervision of junior psychiatric trainees.

Essential Candidate Criteria:

• Full and unrestricted General Medical Council (GMC) Registration with a valid Licence to Practise.
• Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for General Adult Psychiatry or Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (or within 6 months of CCT / CESR approval).
• MRCPsych qualification or equivalent international post-graduate medical qualification.
• Active Approved Clinician (AC) status and valid Section 12(2) approval under the Mental Health Act.
• Proven NHS experience working as a Consultant Psychiatrist within eating disorder services or specialized adult mental health settings.
