Consultant Plastic Surgeon with a Special Interest in Skin Oncology

This full‑time role offers an exciting opportunity to join a high‑volume Plastic Surgery Department that hosts one of the largest and best‑recognised Melanoma Units in the UK, responsible for both local and national referrals.
Main duties
- Perform sentinel lymph node biopsy, axillary and groin nodal block dissections.
- Provide trauma input during on‑call and participate in the multidisciplinary skin cancer service.
- Work one day a week at the Royal Surrey County Hospital to support the networked pathway for skin‑cancer patients.
- Lead and conduct research in skin‑cancer surgery; teach undergraduate, postgraduate and allied‑health staff.
- Participate in audit, research and the Trust’s clinical governance programme.

Job responsibilities
- Provide sentinel lymph node biopsy and perform block dissections of the axilla and groin (including resections above the inguinal ligament) and be trained in electrochemotherapy.
- Manage adult and paediatric hand trauma.
- Offer on‑call cover, liaise with consultants for internal cover during annual/sick leave, and support the Trauma Consultant of the Week rota (four times a year).
- Teach and supervise junior medical staff, medical students, core and specialty surgical trainees.
- Engage in research and quality‑improvement initiatives.
- Act in line with GMC Good Medical Practice, including Duty of Candour.
- Adhere to Trust policies on confidentiality, equal opportunities, health and safety, registration and no‑smoking.
Person specification
Qualifications and training
- MB ChB or equivalent.
- Full GMC Registration.
- FRCS (Plast) or equivalent.
- Higher degree (MD or PhD) – preferred.
Experience
- Experience and training in the full range of emergency and elective plastic‑surgery conditions.
- Experience in skin oncology.
- Evidence of service development in plastic surgery.
Skills
