A leading healthcare organization in Rugby is seeking a Consultant in Gastroenterology/GIM with a focus on Hepatology. The role requires contributions to both inpatient and outpatient services and requires an active involvement in the acute medical on-call rota. Candidates should have the relevant GMC registration and MRCP qualification, with desirable experience in acute care in the UK. This is a full-time, permanent position with competitive salary.
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Gastroenterology/GIM with subspecialty interest in Hepatology. The successful applicant will contribute to the well‑respected Gastroenterology and in particular the Hepatology services of the Trust in both in‑patient and outpatient settings. They will have the opportunity to build upon and develop the established liver services within the unit. They will be working with the rest of the multi‑professional Gastroenterology team in a wide range of activities including ensuring timely management of hepatology pathways. In addition, as a contribution to the acute medical on‑call rota the successful applicant will provide clinical sessions within the Emergency Assessment Unit managing unselected acute medical admissions when on call.
A formal job plan will be agreed between the appointee and their Clinical Director, on behalf of the Medical Director, after the commencement date of the appointment. There is on‑call commitment to the medical on‑call rota with appropriate compensatory rest. We would anticipate the various commitments evolving facilitating that personal development. Within the team, use of SPAs reflects personal interests so one focuses on research while others take greater roles in audit or education. Within Gastroenterology, the team has developed a ward‑based physician of the week system where one consultant takes the lead for one of the Gastroenterology wards for one week before then rotating to mainly elective activity.
The on‑call commitment for the In Hospital Directorate is currently 1:12 weekday nights which is on site between 17.00 – 20.30 and from 20.30 – 08.30 the on call is non‑resident. Weekend on call is split between long and short weekends, following a long weekend, Monday afternoons are provided as compensatory rest.
The on‑call commitment for In Hospital Care is currently paid at 1.5 PAs. There is an additional 0.5 PAs allocated to cover a formal 24/7 GI Bleed rota giving overall a 3% banding supplement, any change to this as a result of service needs would be discussed with affected individuals.
South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust now form University Hospitals Tees and as such you may be required to work at any site across both Trusts.
At North Tees & Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, we want our organisation to be the best place to work with the right staff, in the right roles, at the right time, to ensure we deliver exceptional patient care and experience.

We support the Making Every Contact Count approach to behaviour change in the promotion of health and wellbeing of individuals and communities.
